Combining nature and modernity

The technology region AREA m styria is located in the northeast of the province of Styria, just south of the Alps.  For generations industry and nature have blended to form a distinctive cultural landscape in this part of Styria.  These two distinct mainstays of nature and technology have set this region apart for more than 150 years.

Just as nature and industry have characterized the region, and continue to do so, so do the people here epitomize this mixture of modernization and tradition, of work and leisure time.

The quality of life at its sheer best

Living where others vacation.  Settle here and experience the four seasons first hand.  The AREA m styria has all the benefits of the outstanding Alpine regions of Austria: lush green landscapes of mountains and forests, pristine water and fresh air.

Living in this region means living in a virgin landscape.  Housing here ranges from affordable apartments to a dream house in the green countryside.  Communities in the AREA m styria are able to offer enough property for building or residential property in a city setting.  Forests, mountains and rivers are a welcome setting for leisure activities in the great outdoors.  Climbing or hiking in the mountains, cycling or mountain biking, rafting or canoeing, snowboarding, going skiing or on a ski tour – the region offers fun and relaxation for everyone, whatever shape they are in.  If you'd rather take a trip down south, you can be lying on one of the beaches at the Adriatic Sea in just a matter of hours.

The best infrastructure possible

The materials region AREA m styria has taken advantage of the economic development in Austria in the best way possible.  The infrastructure in the region is higher than the EU average: traffic on the road and on the rail is fully developed to guarantee accessibility to even the most remote rural areas.  All of the cities and communities have ideal local amenities and shopping facilities.  Educational and childcare facilities are on hand and are constantly being brought up to the latest standards.  There are daycare centers and half-day or all-day nursery schools.  Educational opportunities range from primary school, secondary school and high school to universities of applied sciences and a university for the study of mining and metallurgy.  The leading companies of the region have been training apprentices in programs with a practical orientation for years.

Culture & Tradition

Tradition and culture are alive in the region, genuine and lacking any touristy displays.  Some of these are pre-Christian traditions such as bonfires at Easter and the solstice celebrations or the eerily beautiful pandemonium of the Krampus and Perchten through the villages.  The Upper Styrian traditional dress worn on special occasions by young and old alike accentuate their pride in the region.  Cultural identity and industrial development have been vividly documented in numerous museums waiting to be experienced: from the blast furnace museum, to surface mining at the Erzberg Mountain to the quaint museums of local history.  A transregional cultural impulse is set among others by the Cultural Center Leoben with its annual exhibitions on the history of different civilizations.  Athletic and musical mega events add zest to the region in any season: ranging from mountain rallies to skiing events to the concerts everyone is waiting to see.
